On the 8th and 9th of April MIDI plc organized an open weekend at Fort Manoel inviting the public to visit the Fort which has undergone an extensive restoration program worth in excess of €20 million. Over 10,000 people flocked to appreciate the beautifully restored Fort Manoel so pivotal in Malta’s history.
Entertainment in the form of re-enactments, guided tours and lectures by noted experts were held during this open weekend. Both the guided tours and lectures allowed the public to understand the full extent of the restoration works that has been carried out on this important heritage site.
Re-enactments by the Malta Command WWII Living History Group and Show of Arms Scuola d’Arme brought to life pivitol events from the Fort's rich history. Other activities included band displays by Tama Tnabar Drums, Marsa Scouts Pipes & Drums, Mount Carmel Band Club of Gzira and Msida Sea Scouts, all providing a lighter but poignant form of entertainment. Another highlight, among so many, was the fully restored St. Anthony of Padua Chapel where a Mass was held on the Sunday.
